Medard Rieder obtained his engineering degree at the Higher Technical Learning Institution of Burgdorf in Switzerland. After working for a short time as junior software development engineer in a big solar energy research project of a federal office, he changed to industry. There he became responsible for the IT infrastructure and machine-programming department of an international company producing laundry machines. During this period of five years, he gained a solid experience in control and automation as well as in embedded computing. He then changed to the School of Engineering of the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Western Switzerland, Valais, where he still works today. Besides his teaching activities on bachelor and master levels, he has built up a highly specialized team and laboratory for ultra low power embedded systems. Almost all of the laboratory’s research projects are industrial projects.
