Andreas Peer studied Biological Chemistry at the ETH in Zurich. A PhD in carbohydrate synthesis was followed by to post-doctoral stages at the EPFL in Lausanne (oligonucleotide synthesis) and at McGill in Montreal (nanoparticle and peptide synthesis).

Andreas Peer has over 10 years of experience working in research and development in the pharmaceutical industry with stages at Genzyme, Lonza and in start-ups (Anergis and Phi Pharma).

Since 2019 Andreas Peer works as associated Professor in Biomolecular Synthesis at the HES-SO Valais in Sion. He’s research work is based on the following topics:

  • Oligonucleotide synthesis for diagnostic and pharmaceutical applications
  • Synthesis of lipid- and polysaccharide-based nanoparticles for diagnostic and pharmaceutical applications
  • Bioconjugation reactions
  • Synthesis of targeting biomolecules for diagnostic and pharmaceutical applications
  • Synthesis of complex oligosaccharides for diagnostic and pharmaceutical applications

His team’s research is mainly funded by industrial partners and he has worked on several Innosuisse Projects, either as project manager or a scientific collaborator.

He teaches the Organic Chemistry courses, a course in Bioorganic Chemistry and a course in Chemistry of the Biomolecules at the HES-SO in Sion. In addition, he is the head of the master major in Applied Biosciences (from 01.09.2024 on).
